Build a focused Intellivision starter set with Shark! Shark!, Auto Racing, Bomb Squad and Space Hawk. Compare play styles and decide what to buy first.
Quick answer
Start with Shark! Shark! if you want the most approachable Intellivision game, add Auto Racing for solo time-chasing, and choose Bomb Squad or Space Hawk only if you already enjoy reflex-heavy challenges. Buy one or two first, then expand based on which style you actually play.
Why these four games make a practical starter set
These four titles cover distinct moods: underwater growth in Shark! Shark!, track racing in Auto Racing, bomb-defusing pressure in Bomb Squad, and space shooting in Space Hawk. That variety lets you test which Intellivision control style you enjoy before buying more cartridges.
Each listing is for the cartridge only unless otherwise specified, and every game is fully tested and guaranteed to work. That means your budget should account for the game itself, not a box or manual unless the listing says otherwise.
Trade-offs that affect which game you buy first
Shark! Shark! has the simplest premise—eat smaller fish, avoid predators—so it is the easiest recommendation for a first session with a new-to-you console. Auto Racing is a natural second pick if you prefer chasing your own lap times over reacting to enemies.
Bomb Squad and Space Hawk both demand quicker reflexes and more tolerance for failure. If you mainly play in short bursts or with less experienced players, put them later in your starter set. If you want immediate pressure and replayable challenge, they can move up.
Decision rules for your first Intellivision purchase
- If you want the safest first pick: Buy Shark! Shark! first. Its eat-to-grow loop is the most immediately readable of these four games. Play one session before ordering a second cartridge.
- If you play alone and like chasing scores: Choose Auto Racing as your second game for its multiple track layouts and clock-based racing.
- If you want reflex pressure: Pick Bomb Squad for timed defusing or Space Hawk for wave shooting—but only one, so you can judge whether the challenge level suits you.
- If you are buying for a mixed-skill household: Lead with Shark! Shark! and Auto Racing, and hold Bomb Squad and Space Hawk until the simpler games are getting regular play.
